We’ve recently been working in our home city on a historic building in Union Street – The Font pub, part of the Mitchells & Butlers group.
This remodel was completed within three weeks and we provided quantity surveying services alongside other companies including JMDA (designer), Turveys Construction, Marquee AV, Lightique Ltd & European Lamp Group, Morgans Signs & Design, Carlick Contract Furniture and JFA Contracts.
The building, originally Union Chapel, retains much evidence of its former life as a place of worship. It’s unclear exactly when the chapel was constructed, but a foundation stone still exists in the south wall which has been identified as either 1683 or 1688.
The building was completely redesigned in 1825 in a Classical style with Greek Revival and Egyptian Revival elements and it was listed as Grade II on 20 August 1971. After three centuries of religious use by various congregations was converted into a pub in 1988. At that time, the founders of PSE Associates were involved in its transformation into a pub
