Not many people end up in the career they thought they would while still at school, but James Lubke, who joined the team recently at PSE Associates, says that construction is his passion, as it was an industry he has been involved in from a very early age.
James graduated from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, with a Batchelor of Construction Management and Property (Hons), majoring in Building.
James joined PSE Associates in 2019 as a Senior Project Manager/Quantity Surveyor, and he is currently working with Director Paul Collins in the restaurants team.
“My role involves project management, cost management and client liaison from the briefing stage right through to handover,” says James. “We deal with some very high specification restaurants and I’m enjoying the challenges that brings.”
He continues: “What I find really valuable at PSE Associates is being able to jointly work as a Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor. This puts us in a unique position to provide financial value for our clients by controlling cost as well as delivery of their projects.”
Prior to his relocation to the UK, James worked across the commercial, retail, infrastructure, residential and health sectors in Australia, from front-end planning to delivery on a range of complex projects including a secondment as a Tenancy Delivery Manager and a secondment to Perth, where he worked on the Secret Harbour Shopping Centre Expansion.
Most recently, as a site-based Project Manager he delivered a multi-storey carpark and several towers for a major Sydney Hospital redevelopment. His earlier experience as a Building Cadet and a Formworkers Assistant, also allows him to make well considered decisions and advice during the construction process for our clients
When James joined PSE Associates, he had moved to the UK and was looking to use the skills he had developed in Australia.
“This role has more than fulfilled that,” he says. “It’s perfect in that it’s based close to home on the south coast and yet I’m in London two or three days a week, which is a great experience.”
James says PSE Associates has a ‘friendly and welcoming’ culture and he loves the new open-plan offices: “The space we’re in now is fantastic in terms of working together and encouraging productivity and collaboration between our restaurant, leisure and hotel teams.”
When he’s not at work, James enjoys running, Thai kick boxing and discovering what Sussex has to offer, from the beautiful countryside to the excitement and culture in Brighton itself.
PSE Associates provides traditional professional Quantity Surveying and Project Management services to many brand leaders in the leisure, retail and commercial sectors.
