Some of the hotel projects we’ve worked on have been named in a list of the ‘best romantic hotels in the UK’

We might be quantity surveyors and project managers who spend a fair amount of time looking at budgets and counting bricks – but we’re not afraid to admit that we’re a romantic bunch! So, we were thrilled to discover recently that some of the hotel projects we’ve worked on have been named in a list of the ‘best romantic hotels in the UK’, according to The Telegraph.

Over the years, we have undertaken numerous hotel projects for a range of clients from small individual hoteliers through to large national and international corporations. The projects have ranged from the refurbishment of a handful of rooms to the creation of new inner city ‘boutique’ hotels.

Attention to detail is always key in these projects and, when it comes to romantic boutique spaces, we are experienced in working with some innovative and ground-breaking designs – but which still need to come in on budget and within often short timescales.

It’s been interesting over the past few years to see the growth in the ‘boutique’ hotel sector, where owners and designers haven’t been afraid to introduce some quirky and individual ideas and we’ve enjoyed working alongside our clients to make these dreams a reality. It’s always exciting to see the drawings come to life.

Among the hotels we’ve been involved with and mentioned within The Telegraph article is Lime Wood in the New Forest. This hotel gets special mention for its ‘attention to detail’ within the fabric of the building, which we are proud to take some credit for. The article states:

“It’s the attention to detail throughout Lime Wood that makes it special and why it will stand the test of time. The oak doors are thick, the paint finishes lush, the brickwork laid to the architect’s design; soft floor lights switch on automatically as you walk into the bathroom; a million-pound glass roof retracts above the inner courtyard at the press of a button.”

The Pig on the Beach in Dorset (part of the small, but perfectly formed Pig group) also receives praise in the article, as does its hotel in Devon. We worked on both of these projects.

The Pig on the Beach in Studland is described in the article as a ‘quirky fantasy that reminds one, with its overlapping tiled Portland stone roof, of the witch’s gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel’.

“All the rooms are delightful, many with interesting original features; two are delightful two-storey thatched follies overlooking the kitchen garden, and another is in a converted shepherd’s hut under the trees, with its own bathroom.”

The Pig at Combe in Devon can be found at the end of a mile-long drive and is described in The Telegraph article as ‘sexy and fun, as well as romantic’. The writer adds: “The 27 rooms are some of the most charming, traditional yet stylish in the area.”
